That new button on the lower right side of your iPhone 17 Pro Max? That's Camera Control, and it's pretty cool once you get the hang of it.

The Basics

• Single press: Opens the Camera app (or takes a photo if you're already in it)
• Press and hold: Records video
• Press and hold from lock screen: Activates Visual Intelligence (the AI feature that identifies stuff)

Simple enough, right? But here's where it gets interesting.

The Advanced Stuff

Give it a light press (you'll feel a haptic click) and then slide your finger. This reveals a dial that lets you adjust:

• Exposure—brighter or darker
• Zoom—smooth zoom in/out
• Depth—background blur for portraits
• Cameras—switch between lenses
• Styles—change Photographic Styles
• Tone—adjust mood/atmosphere

It's surprisingly intuitive once you try it. The sliding gesture feels like adjusting a real camera dial.

Visual Intelligence

This is the Apple Intelligence feature that lets you point your camera at things and get information about them. Restaurant hours, translation, product info, calendar events from posters—it's genuinely useful.

If It's Annoying You

Some people find themselves accidentally triggering the camera. Totally fixable:

Go to Settings → Camera → Camera Control and switch from Single Click to Double Click. Now you need two deliberate presses to open the camera.

You can also reassign it entirely to open the Code Scanner or Magnifier instead.

Pro Tip
