When it comes to how quiet the motor is on the SmartWings Motorized Roller Shade, it's pretty impressive. According to the manufacturer, it runs at under 35 dB, which is quieter than a normal conversation. So, if you're setting it up in a bedroom or media room, you shouldn't be disturbed by the sound.
Aside from being quiet, these shades work well with smart-home setups, especially if you're into Apple's HomeKit ecosystem. They're compatible with Apple's HomeKit, making it easy to use Siri or the Apple Home app to control them.
You can even automate when they open or close based on your schedule, though you'll need a HomePod or an Apple TV (4th Gen or later) if you want to control them remotely. It's a smooth way to adjust your home's lighting with just your voice or a quick tap.
The shades also provide complete blackout, which is great when you want to keep a room dark, like for sleeping. They run on a rechargeable battery, which our research shows lasts around 4 to 6 months per charge, so you're not constantly recharging them—a nice convenience.
The design is cordless, which looks sleek and is safer around kids or pets. Setting them up is straightforward, so you probably won’t need to call in a professional.
Based on what we've found, folks generally like these shades for their easy HomeKit integration and cost-effectiveness compared to similar options. Some did find the remote setup a bit confusing because of its different modes, but once they got the hang of it, things ran smoothly.
There were a few mentions of minor connectivity hiccups with HomeKit, but those were usually fixable with some quick troubleshooting. All in all, the SmartWings Motorized Roller Shade combines stylish looks with smart tech, making them a good pick for anyone wanting to beef up their home automation game.
