So, you've got the AcuRite 02020 Lightning Detector, and you're curious about its alarm. Well, it's supposed to sound off an audible alert when there's lightning within 25 miles, alongside a flashing red LED. From our research, though, people seem to have mixed feelings about how loud it actually is. Some say it's not particularly loud, which might make it hard to hear in a noisy environment.
On the plus side, a lot of folks like how portable it is and say the alert system generally does its job well. When it comes to reliability, it's a bit of a mixed bag too. Some users find it great for early warnings, even before they see any storm signs themselves.
But others have run into false alarms, particularly indoors or near electronic devices, so that’s something to keep in mind.
The detector has indoor and outdoor modes, and people have noted these can be inconsistent, affecting how reliable it feels. It's good as part of your overall storm safety plan, maybe not your only line of defense. It's probably best in open spaces where there isn’t much electronic interference to mess with it.
Big takeaway? The AcuRite 02020 is handy for portability and basic alerts, but it might not shake the ground with its alarm volume. And just be aware that accuracy can vary depending where you use it.
