The AcuRite 02020 Portable Lightning Detector is like having a personal weatherman in your pocket, alerting you to lightning strikes within a 25-mile range.
It's a nifty tool for anyone who loves spending time outdoors, especially if you're into storm watching. But let's talk about how accurate this thing really is.
According to the manufacturer's product description, it flashes red LEDs, emits a loud alarm, and even displays a message when it detects lightning, whether it's cloud-to-ground or cloud-to-cloud. Sounds pretty cool, right?
Based on our research, it seems like a lot of people think its detection accuracy is pretty solid across different distances. Some folks even mentioned that it gave them a heads-up about incoming storms early enough to change their plans while they were outside.
But, of course, it's not perfect. Some users have run into issues with false alerts or the device missing nearby strikes entirely.
There are also some reports of the device showing messages like "Unable to Detect. Please Relocate," which suggests accuracy might falter in certain settings—maybe due to signal interference or just where the device is located.
So, while the AcuRite 02020 gets props for being easy to tote around and giving clear alerts, just know that accuracy can vary.
It might take some trial and error with positioning to get the best results. All in all, it fits the needs of many, but keep in mind that your experience might depend on where and how you use it.
