From what we've found, the battery life on the Schlage BE499WB CAM 716 Encode Plus WiFi Deadbolt typically lasts between 6 to 12 months with normal use. That said, how long the battery actually lasts can depend on things like how often you use the lock and your connectivity settings.
The manufacturer mentions that using the Schlage Home app can help the deadbolt run more efficiently. The app lets you do things like set up to 100 unique access codes, check the lock's activity, and get notifications about who enters.
This seems especially useful if you've got people like dog walkers or cleaning services needing access at different times.
We also found people like being able to schedule access codes, which adds a nice layer of security and flexibility. Some have mentioned it's pretty easy to set up different codes for different folks, which helps manage who can get in and when.
Plus, if you've got Alexa or Google Assistant, it works with those too, making things even easier.
If you're using Apple's HomeKit, you can create guest codes, but just a heads-up: you'll need the Schlage app to manage when those codes can be used.
So, if you start by setting up with HomeKit, you might find you can’t access certain features later with the Schlage app. It's a good idea to get everything set up how you want it from the start.
Keep an eye on the battery and manage it through the app, and you should have no trouble keeping the lock running well for quite a while.
