nullThe iPhone 17 Pro battery easily lasts a full day of heavy use, making it one of Apple's most meaningful upgrades this generation.
Quick Answer
Apple rates the iPhone 17 Pro at 33 hours of video playback, up from 27 hours on the iPhone 16 Pro. In real-world testing, that translates to a full day of heavy use with 7-8 hours of screen-on time.
Real-World Battery Performance
Independent testers found impressive results:
- 7-8 hours of screen-on time with heavy use (social media, photos, navigation, streaming)
- Full day of mixed use for typical users without needing a charge
- 21+ hours on continuous video loop tests (Pro Max)
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is the battery king, lasting approximately 15.5 hours of real-world mixed use in CNN Underscored's testing.
What Makes It Better
Three key improvements boosted battery life:
- A19 Pro chip: More power-efficient than the A18 Pro, using less energy for the same tasks
- Larger battery in eSIM models: Apple used the space from the removed SIM tray for extra battery capacity in US models
- Vapor chamber cooling: Better thermal management means less throttling and more efficient operation
Charging Options
When you do need to charge, you have fast options:
- 25W MagSafe wireless: Requires a 30W+ adapter for full speed
- 50% in ~20 minutes: With wired fast charging (40W+ adapter)
- Full charge in ~90 minutes: Using a fast charger
For most users, the iPhone 17 Pro will comfortably last from morning until bedtime, even with heavy use throughout the day.
