The filters on the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier usually last around 12 months. However, this can change depending on how often you use it and your air quality. The manufacturer's description says the unit has a True HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter.
The True HEPA filter catches 99.97% of airborne pollutants, and the activated carbon filter helps cut down on odors and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). This combo does a pretty good job of cleaning the air in your home.
Our research indicates that you should generally swap out the True HEPA filter once a year. The activated carbon filter, on the other hand, might need a change every three months to keep things running smoothly.
Some folks have mentioned their filters lasted longer, especially if their air quality is already pretty good. But if you start noticing the air isn't as fresh or you catch a whiff of odors more often, it might be time to change the filters sooner.
One handy feature of the Winix 5500-2 is its filter indicator, which helps you keep track of when you need to change the filters. This way, you don't have to remember the replacement schedule yourself.
Plus, the auto mode and sleep mode can extend the filters' life by adjusting fan speed based on real-time air quality and room lighting.
So, while the HEPA filter typically needs replacement after about a year and the carbon filter every three months, these timelines can shift based on how you use it and your air conditions.
Keep an eye on that filter indicator and replace the filters as needed to make sure your air purifier keeps doing its job efficiently.
