The Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowl is pretty effective at getting dogs to eat more slowly. According to how the manufacturer describes it, the bowl has a maze-like design that gets dogs to interact more with their food. This can make them slow down, which is great for reducing risks like choking and bloating. Apparently, it can make their mealtime last up to ten times longer than with a regular bowl.
The bowl can hold up to 2 cups of either dry or wet food, so it's a decent choice for medium-sized dogs. Something nice that we've found in our research is that the non-slip base works well to keep it from sliding around too much, even if your dog is super energetic. This helps with keeping things neat during feeding times, which many people appreciate.
As for cleanup, it's top-rack dishwasher safe, which is a lifesaver if you're busy. The manufacturer also mentions that the bowl is made without BPA, PVC, or other harmful materials, which is good for peace of mind.
However, our research also indicates a couple of downsides. Some folks mention that food can get stuck in those intricate ridges, making it a bit of a pain to clean sometimes. Plus, it’s lightweight, so determined dogs might push it around or even flip it over, meaning it might need a watchful eye if your dog is particularly feisty.
If slowing down your dog's eating is your main goal, while also giving them a little mental workout, this bowl might be a good fit. Just be prepared for those small mess or cleaning challenges, and maybe think about some extra stabilization if your dog is a bit too eager during mealtimes.
It seems like a fair trade-off for the health perks and extra fun it could bring!
