The noise cancellation on the Sony WH-1000XM5 is a step up from the previous models. If you've used the WH-1000XM series before, you already know Sony's really good at this, and the WH-1000XM5 doesn't disappoint.
Based on our research, there are some nice improvements over the WH-1000XM4, especially with higher frequency noise. This means in places like cafes or offices, where there's a lot of chatter, you'll notice a difference. It's not a huge leap, but if you're picky about your audio, you'll appreciate these tweaks.
For those who commute or travel a lot, these updates help even more with drowning out the sounds of airplane engines or train noise. Sony has fine-tuned the tech to handle different types of background noise better. Plus, the new QN1 processor and Integrated Processor V1 work together to give you a more effective noise-cancelling experience, according to the manufacturer.
One really handy new feature is the Auto NC Optimizer, which adjusts the noise cancellation based on where you are. You used to have to do this manually with the older models.
So, while the WH-1000XM4 was already great, the WH-1000XM5 takes it up a notch for a more refined listening experience. If top-notch noise cancellation is your thing, the upgrade might be worth it.
