Comparing Bones REDS Skateboard Bearings to ABEC-rated ones can be a bit tricky because they have different focuses. Bones REDS don't come with spacers. While lots of skateboard bearings are spacer-free, it's something you might want to think about if you're into high-speed downhill riding or racing.
In those cases, spacers help maintain wheel spacing and alignment. If you find spacers essential, you might have to buy them separately and make sure they're compatible with your setup.
Despite the lack of spacers, Bones REDS are super popular among skaters. Our research indicates that people generally appreciate their smooth ride and durability, calling them a "great deal for the price." This reputation mainly comes from their quality build, which includes a single, non-contact removable rubber shield.
This makes them easy to clean and reduces friction, enhancing the skating experience.
One thing to keep in mind is that Bones REDS don't have an ABEC rating. ABEC ratings measure precision for industrial purposes and don’t really account for the stresses of skateboarding. Bones uses its own system to rate its bearings, focusing on performance in typical skateboarding conditions.
Because of this, many skaters find Bones bearings, like the REDS, to offer better performance compared to ABEC-rated ones, especially when you're doing tricks or just skating around, where factors beyond sheer speed and precision matter more.
In short, if you're after durable and smooth bearings specifically designed for skateboarding, Bones REDS are worth considering. They don't come with spacers or an ABEC rating, but they're well-liked for their value and performance.
If you need spacers, you can always add them to fit your needs.
