nullThe iPhone 17 Pro's SIM card configuration depends on where you purchase the device.
Regional Configurations
United States
- eSIM-only with no physical SIM tray
- Supports 8+ stored eSIM profiles
- Two eSIMs can be active simultaneously
- Apple has used this configuration for US models since iPhone 14
International Markets (Europe, UK, Asia-Pacific)
- Nano-SIM slot + eSIM combination
- Use physical SIM, eSIM, or both together
- Maximum of two lines active at once
China
- Dual physical nano-SIM slots
- No eSIM functionality (regulatory requirement)
eSIM Setup Methods
eSIM Quick Transfer (Easiest)
- Place your old iPhone near the new one during setup
- Select "Transfer SIM" when prompted
- Your number transfers automatically without carrier contact
Alternative Setup Options
- Carrier app activation
- QR code scan from your carrier
- Manual eSIM plan entry through Settings
US Carrier Support
All major carriers fully support eSIM activation:
- AT&T
- T-Mobile
- Verizon
- Most MVNOs and prepaid carriers
International Travel Consideration
US iPhone 17 Pro models cannot accept physical SIM cards. For international travel, you'll need:
- International roaming from your carrier
- Travel eSIM services (Airalo, eSIM.me, etc.)
- Local carrier eSIM plans where available
This is an important consideration for travelers who previously relied on purchasing local SIM cards abroad. eSIM travel options are widely available, but require planning in advance.
