The Solar Buddies Sunscreen Applicator is pretty neat for making sunscreen application less of a mess, especially for kids. It's mainly meant for liquid sunscreens, though, according to what the manufacturer says. But, from what we've found, how well it works really depends on the sunscreen's thickness.
Thicker lotions might cause some problems. Our research suggests that these can sometimes make the roller ball stick or not roll as smoothly, which isn't great when kids are trying to use it alone. It might require a bit of effort to get an even spread, and that's not always easy for younger kids.
On the bright side, when you're using lighter, more fluid sunscreens, like Coppertone Sport or Sunbum, it seems to operate just fine. These thinner lotions glide out more smoothly, which can make it a lot easier for kids to apply by themselves.
So, the key is picking a sunscreen that isn't too thick. We recommend testing a small amount first to see if it works well with the applicator. Keep in mind, some folks have said they still need to rub the sunscreen in a bit afterward, especially if it's a thicker type.
In a nutshell, the Solar Buddies Applicator could be a handy tool for kids if you pair it with the right sunscreen. It’s best to go for one with a standard thickness to sidestep any application hiccups.
That way, putting on sunscreen can be a smoother, more kid-friendly task.
