ViewSonic VG1457 Portable Double Screen
Pros
- •Dual 14-inch IPS panels with 1200p resolution and anti-glare coating, great for reducing reflections indoors
- •Supports multiple modes (Extend, Mirror, Full Screen, Share, Dual Source) for versatile multitasking
- •Auto Pivot feature ensures screens rotate automatically for comfortable viewing in different orientations
- •Lightweight (2.6 pounds) and foldable design, perfect for travel and mobile work setups
- •Three USB-C ports supporting 65W power delivery, offering flexible connectivity and charging options
- •Easy plug-and-play with USB-C, requiring no software or drivers to set up
- •Solid build quality with a sturdy hinge and included felt carrying case for portability
- •Bright enough for indoor use with minimal glare, plus decent color for productivity work
- •Compatible with Windows and MacOS (although MacOS recognizes both as a mirrored display), broad device support
- •Certified for energy efficiency (ENERGY STAR 8.0, EPEAT Silver), consuming around 13-18.5W
Cons
- •Brightness levels only average around 201 nits despite a rated 300 nits, limiting visibility in bright sunlight
- •Color coverage is limited (44.8% DCI-P3, 63.2% sRGB), not suitable for photo editing or multimedia work
- •The built-in speakers are weak (2W x 2) with minimal audio quality, mainly just for calls or background noise
- •MacOS users face a limitation: dual screens are recognized as mirrored, restricting extended desktop functionality
- •Requires understanding multiple setup modes; not entirely straightforward for some users, especially with different device types
- •No HDMI port; only USB-C, which could be a deal-breaker for some users with different devices
- •60Hz refresh rate is okay for office work but not suitable for gaming or fast-paced applications
- •Limited brightness and color accuracy make it less ideal for professional color-sensitive tasks
Bottom Line
The ViewSonic VG1457 dual-screen portable monitor is a practical choice for expanding your workspace on the go, especially if you mainly need productivity features like multiple modes and USB-C connectivity. However, it falls short in brightness, color accuracy, and multimedia capabilities, so it’s not the best option for media editing or high-end visual work. For Mac users, the mirrored display setup can be a limitation, but Windows users will appreciate the independent dual-display support. If you need better color fidelity or higher brightness, you might want to consider a dedicated professional-grade portable monitor, but for versatility and portability, this one offers a good balance.
