Pros
- •Exceptional adjustability with tilt, raise, lower, and rotation options, making it versatile for FaceTime, reading, drawing, and cooking.
- •Strong magnets securely hold the iPad in place, preventing slipping even when rotated or tilted.
- •Comes with both a weighted desk base and an optional shelf clamp, offering flexible and secure mounting options.
- •Sleek, minimal design complements Apple devices without looking bulky or out of place.
- •Supports multiple iPad sizes, so you don’t need a different stand for each device.
- •Premium, sturdy build quality suitable for frequent and long-term use.
- •Heavy and stable base prevents tipping when positioned correctly.
- •Minimal desk footprint when using the clamp, freeing up workspace and allowing objects on the base for desk organization.
- •Adjustable arm strength with included Allen wrenches lets you customize tension as needed.
Cons
- •The arm tends to sag or slowly tilt over time, especially with heavier iPads, requiring frequent tightening or even additional support like Velcro.
- •Switching between the weighted base and clamp requires extra time and effort due to the lack of a quick-attach mechanism.
- •Adjustments need three different hex wrenches, which is inconvenient and cumbersome for frequent changes.
- •Some adjustment screws are mis-sized, requiring excessive force to tighten, which risks stripping them.
- •The base can still tip when used with smaller iPads (like the 9.7") unless the device is positioned directly over the base.
- •Clamp mounting is secure but impractical for users who want to frequently reposition the stand around a desk or between rooms.
- •The stand tends to shake during touch interaction, making it less ideal for users who tap the screen often; better suited for use with Sidecar or a keyboard/mouse setup.
Bottom Line
The Twelve South HoverBar Duo (2nd Gen) delivers premium build quality and versatile adjustability that suits a wide range of iPads and uses, especially if you want to keep your workspace sleek and organized. However, if you rely heavily on touch input or need to reposition your stand regularly, the sagging arm, cumbersome adjustment process, and clunky switching between base and clamp may test your patience. It’s a solid choice for stationary setups like Sidecar use or watching media but less ideal if you’re after quick adjustability or lightweight portability. If you want quicker adjustments or better support for frequent repositioning, you might want to explore other tablet stands with faster clamp mechanisms or stronger arm joints.
