Pros
- •Offers realistic water resistance that closely mimics rowing on water, providing a more balanced full-body workout than magnetic rowers.
- •Durable, solidly built frame with sturdy welds ensures long-lasting use and stability during workouts.
- •Adjustable footrests and handle positioning accommodate taller users well, allowing for a full rowing range.
- •Functional workout monitor delivers key statistics like stroke rate, helping users track progress effectively.
- •Comfortable seat and textured pull handle enhance usability for longer sessions.
- •Smooth and quiet operation with a soothing “whooshing” sound from the water tank, creating a more enjoyable experience.
- •Easy to assemble with most parts pre-assembled; generally takes about 40–60 minutes.
- •Compact design with vertical storage capability makes it suitable for home gyms with limited space.
- •Responsive and supportive customer service that addresses warranty issues promptly.
- •Integrated tablet holder above the monitor provides convenient entertainment during workouts.
Cons
- •Foot straps are the weakest component, often described as overly long with minimal hook-and-loop contact, requiring modification for secure fit, especially with bare feet or non-running shoes.
- •The workout monitor, while functional, can be hard to read without strong lighting and lacks backlighting, limiting usability in low-light conditions.
- •Maximum water resistance is somewhat limited; users notice little difference between half and full tank, and resistance may fade at high stroke rates around 20 SPM.
- •Assembly instructions can be confusing due to small diagrams and tricky internal wiring.
- •Sizing can be tight for very tall users (e.g., 6'4") where stroke length barely avoids the stop, potentially limiting comfort.
- •The rower’s resistance system is controlled only by rowing intensity, with no manual resistance adjustment.
- •Vibrations or feedback through the grips have been mentioned, though rowing remains smooth overall.
- •Better suited for low-impact, casual home exercise rather than serious training or competitive rowing.
- •Bearings used are basic and might not hold up under very heavy or commercial usage over time.
Bottom Line
The Sunny Health & Fitness Phantom Hydro Water Rowing Machine SF-RW5910 delivers a realistic and enjoyable water rowing experience perfect for beginners and casual users seeking a durable, low-impact home workout. Its solid construction, smooth water resistance, and functional monitor make it a strong contender at this price point, especially if you want a quieter, joint-friendly cardio routine. However, serious athletes or very tall users might find the limited resistance and sizing less than ideal, and the foot straps may require some DIY adjustments. If you want a rowing machine with more intense resistance options or professional-grade features, exploring other higher-end models could be worthwhile, but for most home users, this rower provides excellent value and performance.
