Pros
- •Picture quality is exceptional, with vibrant, accurate colors and superb subtlety, especially compared to older plasma TVs.
- •Brilliant color reproduction with bright whites and exceptionally deep blacks delivers an immersive visual experience.
- •4K resolution combined with boosted brightness enhances clarity and detail without noticeable artifacts during fast motion.
- •Offers exclusive gaming features tailored for Playstation 5, making it a great choice for gamers.
- •Slim bezel design maximizes screen size without adding bulk, fitting nicely into most setups.
- •The aluminum remote is compact, solid, and includes motion-activated backlighting for easier use in dark rooms.
- •Legs can be attached without laying the TV flat, simplifying setup and initial testing.
- •Delivers excellent performance as a computer monitor, with improved visibility and detail, especially helpful for users with reduced vision.
- •The Dolby Vision HDR support enhances dynamic range, boosting overall picture quality.
Cons
- •Google TV operating system can be unstable, sometimes getting stuck in loops that require source switching to fix.
- •Built-in speakers create lip sync delays when using external AV receivers, requiring newer receivers with HDMI audio delay features for proper surround sound sync.
- •USB-2 port remains powered sporadically after the TV is off, causing unnecessary power cycling.
- •The front LED power indicator stays on continuously when plugged in, with no option to disable it, which can be distracting.
- •Poor cable management due to connection ports being on the bottom left, making cables visible with legs or tricky to route when wall mounted.
- •Large detachable rear panel complicates attaching rear lighting strips for those who want bias lighting.
- •Non-detachable power cable limits flexibility and often requires extensions if the cable is not long enough.
- •Included Bravia camera is visually unappealing and offers little practical use after initial setup.
- •Google TV interface feels clunky and heavily pushes Google ecosystem apps; users wanting smoother streaming might prefer an Apple TV device.
- •Despite a neat back panel design, most users never see it, making the effort feel wasted given the poor cable routing.
Bottom Line
The Sony QD-OLED 77 inch BRAVIA XR A95L is a visual powerhouse delivering stunning picture quality with deep blacks, brilliant colors, and excellent HDR performance, making it a top-tier choice for cinephiles and gamers alike. However, the quirky software stability issues, less-than-ideal cable management, and some audio syncing hurdles mean you should be ready to invest in compatible AV gear and possibly accept some minor annoyances. If you prioritize seamless streaming interfaces or flawless out-of-the-box AV integration, you might want to consider pairing this TV with an Apple TV device for a smoother user experience. Overall, if jaw-dropping picture quality is your main goal and you're fine with a few software and hardware quirks, this is one of the best TVs on the market today.
