Pros
- •Delivers convincing Dolby Atmos spatial sound that rivals full traditional home theater systems, especially in smaller rooms
- •Wide discrete left and right front speakers create superior front soundstage imaging compared to traditional soundbars
- •Phantom center channel generation works exceptionally well without needing a dedicated center speaker or specific TV brand
- •Setup is remarkably simple with only four wireless speakers requiring power connections and automatic speaker recognition
- •Compatible with any TV brand or display device, not limited to Sony products
- •Wireless pairing and audio performance are flawless with zero connectivity issues or dropouts
- •Enhances both movies and music listening without overwhelming the audio
- •Delivers a 7.4.1 Dolby Atmos experience in a compact package installable in approximately 30 minutes
- •Acoustic Center Sync technology delivers dialogue directly from the screen for noticeably improved sound quality
- •SW5 subwoofer integration is seamless and adequate for smaller to medium rooms
Cons
- •App connectivity issues during initial setup requiring multiple attempts and random disconnections that need complete system reset
- •HDMI CEC conflicts with certain TV models cause speaker output to randomly switch to TV speakers
- •Requires wired LAN connection instead of WiFi for stable app connectivity in congested networks
- •Limited manual adjustment options available in the app
- •Lacks an all-channel stereo mode for music listening
- •Soundbar alone has limited bass performance and cannot adequately replace physical rear speakers without the subwoofer
- •Only available in gray color
- •Functions best as a complete package rather than as a standalone soundbar
Bottom Line
The Sony BRAVIA Theater Quad is an impressive spatial audio solution that delivers genuine Dolby Atmos theater-quality sound in a compact, wireless package—perfect if you're looking to upgrade from a traditional soundbar without the complexity of a full multi-speaker system. However, be aware that this system shines brightest as a complete package with the subwoofer and rear speakers, and you may encounter some app connectivity quirks during initial setup that typically resolve once the system stabilizes. If you prioritize seamless plug-and-play functionality over troubleshooting, you might want to research more user-friendly alternatives in the same price range, though most reviewers found the system more than worth the minor setup hassles once everything was dialed in.
