Pros
- •Exceptionally powerful suction combined with DuoClean technology and dual roller brushes that excel at picking up long human hair and pet hair without tangling.
- •Lightweight and highly maneuverable, making it easy to use on stairs, around furniture, and in tight spaces.
- •Lift-Away feature enhances versatility by allowing the vacuum to convert into a handheld for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and hard-to-reach areas.
- •Built-in headlights improve visibility under furniture and in dark corners.
- •Rubber wipers gently yet effectively remove hair and dirt from medium-pile carpets without damaging fibers.
- •Large dustbin capacity reduces the frequency of emptying.
- •Anti-Allergen and Odor Neutralizer technologies contribute to a fresher, cleaner home environment.
- •Compact design fits well in small spaces and apartments.
- •Roller brushes resist hair tangles, saving maintenance time.
- •Cord management is straightforward with a manual rewind system that users find easy enough despite lacking an automatic rewind.
Cons
- •The vacuum can struggle with light or thin rugs because the dual rollers sometimes grip and pinch the fibers, requiring manual intervention to release.
- •Manual cord rewind, while simple, is less convenient compared to the automatic rewind found on pricier models.
- •Suction settings are basic with just high and low levels, lacking more nuanced control available in some competitors.
- •Dustbin filtration may not be as thorough as in bagged vacuum systems, which could be a concern for those with severe allergies.
- •Slightly heavier than some ultra-light models, which may affect prolonged use for some users.
Bottom Line
The Shark Detect Pro Speed Lift-Away ADV LA742 stands out for its powerful suction and smart design features like DuoClean and the Lift-Away system, making it an excellent choice for homes with pets and long-haired individuals. Its tangle-resistant rollers and effective allergen-control technologies add to its appeal. However, if you frequently vacuum light rugs or want more convenient cord management and advanced suction control, you might want to consider other models. Overall, this vacuum offers strong value and performance for a versatile upright vacuum with specialized cleaning tech.
