Pros
- •Exceptional suction power easily outperforms many other uprights, picking up dirt, pet hair, and debris missed by others.
- •DuoClean Detect technology with two brushrolls and sensors automatically adjusts suction and speed, delivering thorough cleaning on carpets and hard floors.
- •Lift-Away detachable pod transforms vacuum into a lightweight stick for stairs, furniture, and tight spaces, enhancing versatility.
- •Odor Neutralizer Technology helps keep your home smelling fresh while vacuuming.
- •HEPA filtration with Anti-Allergen Complete Seal traps 99.99% of dust, dander, and allergens, improving indoor air quality.
- •White LED light on the nozzle reveals hidden dirt on hardwood and alerts when maintenance is needed.
- •Includes three handy attachments (crevice tool, upholstery tool, and pet multi tool) for targeted cleaning jobs.
- •Long power cord enables wide cleaning reach without switching outlets.
- •Self-cleaning brush rollers reduce hair wrap and maintenance hassles.
- •Adjustable settings and smooth wheels aid maneuverability across a variety of floor types and obstacles.
Cons
- •The vacuum is heavier than cordless sticks and some upright competitors, making it less nimble, especially for extended use.
- •Hose length in Lift-Away mode is limited to about 3 feet, requiring you to carry the tank while cleaning overhead or in tight spots.
- •Tool attachments sometimes feel loosely attached and prone to falling off.
- •When the wand is detached for above-floor cleaning, the LED light turns off, reducing visibility in dark or awkward areas.
- •Dust cup alignment and engagement can be tricky and occasionally frustrating to secure properly.
- •Cord storage is sometimes awkward, especially if the dust cup isn’t correctly in place, causing the cord to snag on a plastic lip.
- •Some users find the roller stiff due to the vacuum’s weight, slightly impacting maneuverability in tight spaces.
- •Touch-sensitive buttons for mode changes on the handle can accidentally be pressed during use.
Bottom Line
The Shark POWERDETECT Upright Cleaner AZ4002 is a powerhouse designed for serious cleaning — especially if pet hair and hidden dirt are your nemeses. Its smart suction adjustment, excellent allergen filtration, and Lift-Away versatility make it stand out for homes with mixed floor types and pets. The tradeoff is a somewhat heavier, less nimble build with minor quirks like short hose length in Lift-Away mode and fiddly dust cup alignment. If you want ultra-strong suction and advanced dirt-sensing tech in one vacuum with excellent above-floor options, this is a strong choice. For those looking for something lighter or with longer hose reach when detached, you might also consider other Shark models focused on stick vacuums or those with extended hose accessories.
