Pros
- •Exceptionally strong suction that outperforms many other upright vacuums, making carpets and hard floors noticeably cleaner.
- •DuoClean technology and HEPA filter improve debris pickup, especially pet hair, dust, and fine dirt.
- •Powered Lift-Away feature allows for easy transformation into a lighter form for stairs, corners, and under furniture cleaning.
- •White light on the vacuum head helps identify hidden dirt on hardwood floors and provides maintenance alerts.
- •Odor cartridge included to freshen floors, which can be adjusted or turned off as preferred.
- •Versatile with three attachments (crevice tool, upholstery tool, pet multi-tool) for detailed cleaning.
- •Smooth wheels and adjustable settings make maneuvering manageable despite the vacuum’s weight.
- •Long power cord covers a whole floor without frequent outlet changes.
- •Self-cleaning brush roller reduces hair wrap around the brush, cutting down on maintenance.
- •Controls are well placed for quick mode changes, enhancing usability.
Cons
- •Heavier than cordless stick vacuums, which can make operation tiring over extended use or for less strong users.
- •Hose length while in Lift-Away mode is limited to about 3 feet, requiring you to carry the tank when cleaning elevated or tight spaces.
- •Tool attachments sometimes detach unintentionally, which can interrupt cleaning sessions.
- •Light shuts off when the wand detaches, reducing visibility in dark or hard-to-see areas.
- •Dust cup alignment and locking can be fiddly and frustrating to secure properly.
- •Cord storage can be tricky if the dust cup isn’t seated correctly, causing the cord to snag on plastic edges.
- •Brush roller feels slightly stiff, likely due to the vacuum’s heavier build, which can affect smooth movement.
- •Touch-sensitive buttons on the upper handle may be accidentally activated during use.
- •Despite strong suction and features, few innovations beyond previous Shark upright models are noticeable.
Bottom Line
The Shark POWERDETECT AZ4002 is a powerhouse vacuum especially suited for pet owners and anyone looking for tough, thorough cleaning on carpets and hard floors. Its standout suction strength, Lift-Away versatility, and helpful features like the white light and odor cartridge make it a top contender in its class. However, be prepared for a heavier machine and minor quirks like limited hose length and fiddly dust cup engagement. If you want maximum cleaning muscle with smart tech but prefer something lighter or with longer hose reach, you might want to explore other Shark Lift-Away models or cordless options. Overall, if heavy-duty suction and pet hair pickup are your priorities, this vacuum is worth serious consideration.
