Pros
- •Effective at completely eliminating Japanese beetles from infested trees, with results lasting at least a week
- •Works well on large infestations, even with thousands of beetles
- •Easy to use with regular application and quick results against certain pests like fuchsia gall mites
- •Delivers on targeting pests when applied directly to outdoor plants
- •Better at controlling mites compared to some other products, especially when used before plants bloom
Cons
- •Some users experienced failure with the spray mechanism, with triggers working but no liquid dispensing
- •Did not control bugs effectively and sometimes worsened pest problems, with bug populations increasing
- •Not as fast-acting as standard bug sprays; slow results can be disappointing
- •Contains carbaryl, a suspected carcinogen, requiring cautious handling and proper timing of application
- •May attract or support bug populations rather than eliminating them according to certain reviews
- •Effectiveness varies between pests; some found it ineffective on spiders, ants, mosquitoes, or caterpillars
- •Non-functioning bottles led to frustration and inability to use the product
Bottom Line
While Sevin Insect Killer can be effective for specific pests like Japanese beetles and fuchsia gall mites, its mixed reviews regarding overall pest control, slow action, and safety concerns suggest it’s best for diligent users cautious about application timing—alternatives like Black Flag may offer quicker, more reliable results.
