Pros
- •Promotes a noticeably deeper green, thicker, and stronger lawn with consistent use.
- •Effectively reduces dandelions and broadleaf weeds when applied under ideal conditions.
- •Prevents crabgrass and several grassy weeds for up to 4 months, combining feed and weed control in one product.
- •Easy enough for lawn care novices to use with a broadcast spreader.
- •Provides good value by combining fertilization and weed prevention in a single application.
- •Works well on multiple grass types, including Bermuda, Kentucky Bluegrass, and Fescue.
- •Visible lawn improvement often appears about two weeks after application.
- •Helps maintain a healthier lawn that naturally resists weed infestations when used regularly.
Cons
- •Granules tend to clump severely, forming hard, concrete-like bricks that are difficult to break apart and spread evenly.
- •Application is challenging; the fine granules are prone to uneven distribution and require constant attention and adjustment of spreaders.
- •Product quality appears inconsistent compared to previous years, with many users reporting a decline.
- •Customer service is often unhelpful, with difficult and lengthy claim processes even when following warranty instructions.
- •Clumping and hardening issues negatively impact coverage uniformity and therefore effectiveness.
- •Some broadleaf weeds and tough weeds may persist despite treatment.
- •Applying fertilizer and weed control combined can reduce the effectiveness of targeted weed killing; separate applications may yield better results.
- •Longer application time than expected—what should be an hour can easily stretch to three due to product consistency.
- •Packaging might not always protect from moisture, contributing to product hardening.
- •The 'No Haggle' or warranty guarantees can feel misleading given the hurdles in actually claiming support.
Bottom Line
Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action offers a convenient 3-in-1 solution that delivers greener, thicker lawns and controls many common weeds, making it appealing for gardeners wanting to streamline lawn care. However, be prepared for frustration during application because of serious clumping and spreader issues, which can undercut effectiveness and increase labor time. For stubborn weeds or perfect coverage, consider supplementing with separate, targeted weed killers or exploring other brands with easier application. If packaging and customer service reliability are deal breakers, you might want to investigate alternative products better praised for ease of use and consistency.
