Pros
- •Heart rate tracking performs exceptionally well and compares favorably to medical-grade devices
- •Charges incredibly fast with the included compact charger, perfect for travel
- •Battery lasts 3+ days with moderate to heavy use when Always-on Display is disabled
- •Setup is simple and straightforward, with LTE connectivity configured automatically
- •Design is the most aesthetically refined Galaxy Watch Samsung has made, looking even better in person than promotional images
- •Reduced bezels deliver more screen space without increasing watch size
- •Watch face customization is excellent with many options to choose from
- •Pairs seamlessly with Samsung devices for enhanced ecosystem integration
- •Fitness tracking and exercise sensors maintain award-winning performance
- •Lighter weight than the previous generation with less harsh sensor lighting
Cons
- •Battery life is disappointing and inconsistent—while some users report 3+ days, others get only 1-2 days depending on usage, with battery saver mode capping out at 48 hours
- •Sleep tracking is wildly inaccurate, recording time before you fall asleep and after you wake up as actual sleep with no way to manually adjust
- •Step counting is erratic and unreliable for accurate activity tracking
- •Screen has a design gap that collects debris around the edges, creating a constantly dirty appearance that's difficult to clean
- •Speaker is barely audible even at maximum volume, especially in noisy environments
- •Health features requiring a Samsung Galaxy phone mean Pixel phone users won't have access to key functionality
- •Stock watch band is poor quality and replacement bands are likely expensive
- •Wear OS feels unpolished and not ready for release
- •Premium $519.99 price point isn't justified given performance issues and limited differentiation from competitor smartwatches
- •Not recommended for upgrading if you already own a Galaxy Watch 6
Bottom Line
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm is an attractive smartwatch with solid fitness tracking and excellent heart rate monitoring, but it's held back by inconsistent battery life and buggy sleep tracking that makes it difficult to recommend at this price point. If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone and prioritize health tracking over battery longevity, this watch delivers. However, if you're upgrading from a Galaxy Watch 6 or expect reliable sleep data, you might want to reconsider—several reviewers felt the improvements didn't justify the cost upgrade, and some noted battery performance has actually regressed compared to older models.
