Pros
- •Outstanding picture quality with vibrant, crisp 4K display that enhances the viewing experience.
- •Crystal Processor 4K delivers excellent performance for sharp, clear images.
- •Built-in sound is surprisingly good and loud enough for bedroom or casual use, with option for better sound via soundbar.
- •Easy and quick setup using the Samsung SmartThings app; the app also works well as a remote control.
- •Responsive smart TV interface is faster and more customizable than many competing budget smart TVs, such as FireTV.
- •Includes Alexa built-in and Knox Security, appealing for smart home integration and device security.
- •Three HDMI ports including one with eARC support for better audio connectivity.
- •The MetalStream design is sleek, and the TV is relatively lightweight yet stable on its sturdy feet.
- •Extensive streaming app selection preloaded, with support for major apps like Plex, even though Jellyfin is missing.
- •Can disable Samsung’s default ads and spying features through settings, though it takes around two weeks to fully reduce tracking.
Cons
- •Setup process requires the SmartThings phone app, which some find inconvenient and unnecessarily complicated.
- •Multiple updates and configuration steps needed before full functionality, which can frustrate non-tech-savvy users.
- •USB port has limited power output and only works when the TV is powered on, limiting peripheral flexibility.
- •VESA mounting pattern (100x100) is larger than needed for this TV’s weight, possibly requiring adapter hardware.
- •Lacks open-source flexibility found in Android TV or Roku platforms, limiting some customization and alternative app installations.
- •May require re-adding the device to smart home systems like Home Assistant after software updates, disrupting automations.
- •Remote uses AAA batteries instead of the more common AA, which some users consider less convenient.
- •While the built-in sound is good, many users feel a soundbar with subwoofer greatly enhances the audio experience.
- •Some report minor hiccups with Samsung’s ad and tracking features, which require patience to fully disable.
- •Not ideal for users who want a super straightforward, plug-and-play TV experience without app setup steps.
Bottom Line
The SAMSUNG 85-Inch Class Crystal UHD U8000F (2025) offers excellent 4K picture quality, a sleek design, and solid smart features including Alexa and Knox Security, making it a strong contender at its price point. However, be prepared for a multi-step setup requiring the SmartThings app and some patience to disable built-in ads and tracking. If you want something with a more open smart platform or easier initial setup, consider exploring models with Android TV or Roku. Otherwise, this Samsung provides a high-value, immersive viewing experience with modern smart integrations, especially if paired with a good soundbar for the best audio performance.
