Pros
- •Exceeds expectations in power by cutting quickly and efficiently through branches up to 1-2 inches thick.
- •Lightweight and highly portable, easy to carry for yard tasks or even outdoor activities like kayaking.
- •Reliable and safe to use when handled properly, making it a solid choice for pruning and trimming.
- •Requires only basic maintenance; regular chain lubrication with quality oils like 3-in-1 or lightweight chain oil significantly improves performance and durability.
- •Works well as a trimmer and offers great value for its price point.
- •Surprisingly innovative and ahead of its time compared to similar mini chainsaws at major retailers.
- •Optimized for right-handed users, which will suit most buyers comfortably.
Cons
- •Battery and charger are not included, so you’ll need to buy those separately unless you already own compatible Ryobi ONE+ batteries.
- •The chain requires frequent lubrication, but this crucial maintenance step isn’t emphasized enough in the instructions.
- •Battery runtime is limited — it sometimes only lasts about 5 minutes when cutting multiple small branches before needing a recharge.
- •Lacks an upper handguard, which can affect safety or comfort for users who prefer two-handed operation.
- •Lower handguard design makes it awkward to store on racks or holders.
- •Not optimized for left-handed users, which could be uncomfortable or impractical for that group.
Bottom Line
The Ryobi ONE+ 18V 6 in. Compact Pruning Mini Chainsaw packs impressive power into a lightweight, easily portable package, perfect for quick trimming jobs if you already have Ryobi ONE+ batteries. Just keep in mind the battery life is short and chain lubrication is essential but understated, so staying on top of maintenance is key. If you want a fuss-free mini chainsaw mainly for occasional yard work and branch trimming, this tool fits the bill. However, if you need longer continuous run times or something more ambidextrous, you might want to consider other tools in the Ryobi ONE+ lineup or explore options geared toward longer battery life and better two-handed safety.
