Pros
- •The romaine is large, fresh, and consistently available.
- •Packaging is cleverly designed with a loose-fitting 'hood' to balance moisture and freshness, preventing dehydration while avoiding excess moisture.
- •The product can retain crispness for over six weeks when wrapped properly.
Cons
- •Consistent bad quality with issues of rotten, slimy leaves and unpleasant smells.
- •The product has shown a decline in quality, with smaller, wilted leaves.
- •Shoppers report dissatisfaction due to the need for multiple packs to achieve the previous quantity provided by one.
- •Romaine did not match the advertised picture recently and was smaller than expected.
- •Concerns about the freshness and selection process, leading to dissatisfaction and a switch to other greens like butter lettuce.
Bottom Line
While the romaine lettuce is praised for its packaging and freshness retention when stored properly, there are significant complaints about inconsistent quality and smaller, wilted leaves. Many customers have found the decline distressing, resulting in a shift towards alternative greens like butter lettuce. If freshness is essential, consider these alternatives for a satisfactory purchase.
