- •Provides reliable real-time notifications with minimal delay, even when using LTE outside home WiFi.
- •Effective motion detection with customizable zones that significantly reduce false alerts from things like street activity.
- •Clear picture quality that’s good enough to identify visitors, though not full high definition.
- •Installation is relatively easy, especially for those comfortable with wiring, and the recommended mounting height (~4 feet) helps capture faces clearly.
- •Subscription plan adds good value by allowing unlimited cameras and cloud storage, better than SD-only options.
- •Works reliably across multiple household devices once connected properly.
- •Responsive customer service reported to provide quick replacements when needed.
- •Encouraging users to optimize WiFi (mesh networks or router relocation) helps improve overall performance.
Cons
- •Wi-Fi connectivity is notoriously unstable, with frequent disconnections often occurring just hours after setup.
- •Installation can be misleadingly presented as simple, but real-world setup may require repetitive troubleshooting and power cycling, often without guaranteed success.
- •The included Chime Pro unit sometimes creates its own Wi-Fi network but struggles to maintain a steady connection with the doorbell, worsening connectivity issues.
- •Customer service troubleshooting can be repetitive and not always effective in resolving connectivity problems.
- •Some users report inconsistent recording behavior when offline; the doorbell may record occasionally but eventually stops altogether.
- •Requires a compatible doorbell transformer (ideally 24v), which can mean additional installation hassle including locating and sometimes upgrading the transformer.
- •The app can have occasional delays in event playback, displaying “processing” messages that impact user experience.
- •Continuous streaming to cloud servers consumes notable data, which is an important consideration if you have a metered internet plan.
- •Full functionality like event recording and history requires a subscription, which adds to ongoing costs.
Bottom Line
The Certified Refurbished Ring Video Doorbell Pro offers solid motion detection, timely notifications, and decent video quality for identifying visitors, but it can be a network diva with persistent Wi-Fi connectivity issues that may test your patience. Installation isn’t a walk in the park if your transformer needs upgrading or your Wi-Fi isn’t strong and stable. If you want a doorbell that *just works* more reliably on Wi-Fi, you might want to consider waiting for a newer model or exploring alternatives. However, if you’re comfortable troubleshooting and have a solid home network, the Ring Pro paired with the subscription plan offers a robust smart doorbell experience.
