- •Provides strong and consistent UVB coverage, ideal for larger reptile habitats, especially desert species like bearded dragons.
- •Helps prevent or reverse metabolic bone disease, an essential feature for reptile health.
- •Twice the UVB output compared to standard ReptiSun 10.0 lamps, making it highly effective.
- •Recommended and used by zoos, vets, and reptile professionals for reliable reptile care.
- •High-quality manufacturing, made in Germany.
- •Available more readily online compared to some other top-tier competitors like Arcadia.
- •Convenient autoship options help keep replacements on hand without the risk of running out.
- •Works best when installed inside the tank under mesh lids to minimize UVB blocking.
- •Considered one of the best T5 HO UVB bulbs available, especially the 10.0 HO version from Zoo Med.
- •Customer service is notably responsive and helpful when resolving order issues.
Cons
- •Bulb length slightly exceeds the standard 24" terrarium hood size, causing fit issues and potentially requiring a new hood.
- •Packaging is insufficient for protecting fragile bulbs, leading to a high risk of breakage during shipping despite a protective cardboard cylinder.
- •Quality control issues cause some bulbs to fail to turn on or burn out prematurely even when undamaged.
- •Bulbs must be replaced every 6 to 12 months to maintain UVB efficacy, which can add to ongoing costs.
- •Mesh lids can block 30-50% of UVB rays, meaning placement within the tank is crucial to ensure proper lighting.
- •Replacement bulbs sometimes arrive broken, indicating packaging and handling problems persist.
- •The product is better purchased online since physical stores may have higher prices and smaller models not suitable for all tanks.
Bottom Line
The Zoo Med 26061 Reptisun 10.0 T5-HO UVB Lamp delivers excellent UVB output and is trusted by professionals for preventing metabolic bone disease in larger reptiles. However, be prepared for possible fit issues due to bulb length and a frustratingly high risk of breakage during shipping because of limited packaging. Frequent replacement is necessary to maintain UVB effectiveness, and care must be taken with tank setup to avoid UVB blocking. If you want a strong UVB source and don’t mind ordering online and handling some possible sizing or packaging hassles, this bulb is a strong choice. Otherwise, keep an eye out for alternatives or compatible fixtures that can better accommodate the bulb length.
