Pros
- •Significantly reduces weeds, cutting about 85% of new growth when applied properly.
- •Effectively stops weeds before they germinate, making it a solid weed prevention tool.
- •Comes ready to use immediately, with no setup or mixing required.
- •Covers a large area (900 sq ft) in a single application, making it convenient for medium-sized gardens.
- •Provides slow-release plant food (9-12-9 fertilizer analysis), which supports healthy plant growth alongside weed prevention.
- •Proven reliable and consistent over multiple years of use according to user feedback.
- •Easy to use and trusted enough by users to recommend to friends and family.
- •Offers good value for the price with quality that meets or exceeds expectations.
- •Particularly effective in harsh or challenging gardening conditions such as Florida's climate.
- •Saves time by reducing weeding effort in less cultivated areas like rock gardens or driveway cracks.
Cons
- •Does not kill existing weeds; users must clear the area before applying to get full benefit.
- •Monthly application is recommended, which might be seen as frequent by some gardeners.
- •Not suitable for use in areas where grass, flowers, or other desirable plants are growing as it prevents all seed germination.
- •Weighs 6.12 pounds (sometimes confused with heavier packages), so double-check weight when comparing price or quantity with similar products.
- •While it reduces weed growth significantly, it does not eliminate the need to weed entirely.
Bottom Line
If you want a dependable, easy-to-use weed preventer that also feeds your plants, Preen Weed Preventer Plus Plant Food is a solid choice—especially if you’re looking to reduce labor and keep weeds from taking over bare garden beds or rough areas. Just remember it’s a prevention product, not a weed killer, so prep your garden by removing existing weeds first. For gardeners seeking a less frequent application or organic options, you might want to explore other products, but if steady, multi-season reliability and a fertilizer boost sound appealing, this is well worth considering.
