Pros
- •The game runs smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2 with enhanced resolution and stable 60 fps performance, offering 2K visuals that noticeably improve the experience.
- •The real-time battle system is fresh and dynamic, allowing Trainers and Pokémon to move freely during combat, making battles more engaging and strategic.
- •Mega Evolution returns as a powerful mechanic, adding exciting tactical depth and visual flair to encounters, including new Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
- •Exploration is focused around Lumiose City, a lively urban setting filled with parks, shops, wild zones, and side quests that provide a variety of gameplay activities beyond battles.
- •Side quests are diverse and encourage different playstyles, such as shiny hunting, battling large Pokémon, and collecting in-game items like crystal pieces and colorful screws.
- •The main cast is charming, with entertaining and often silly dialogue, contributing to an enjoyable story experience set in a well-realized world connected to the Kalos region.
- •The soundtrack and sound design are memorable, greatly enhancing the atmosphere and immersion.
- •Online features like the Z-A Royale competition and Z-A Battle Club add replay value through multiplayer real-time battles locally or online.
- •Game performance is also good on the original Nintendo Switch, although the Switch 2 brings visual and frame rate enhancements.
- •The game offers a good balance of nostalgia and innovation, especially for fans who enjoyed Pokémon Legends: Arceus, with a refreshing take on the franchise’s formula.
Cons
- •The story, while engaging, lacks depth and can feel somewhat light compared to other RPGs, potentially limiting long-term narrative investment.
- •Some players find the new battle system less challenging, which might reduce the game’s appeal for those seeking difficulty and strategic complexity.
- •The game shows occasional lack of polish in graphics and minor glitches, possibly due to budget or development constraints, which can detract from the overall experience.
- •Forced cutscenes during day/night transitions can interrupt gameplay flow and become repetitive.
- •Character customization is somewhat limited, offering many clothing options but fewer choices for hair styles and body types.
- •Although the game innovates with real-time battles, some may miss the classic turn-based feel typical of earlier Pokémon RPGs.
Bottom Line
Pokémon™ Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch™ 2 Edition delivers a visually enhanced, action-packed Pokémon RPG experience with a fresh real-time battle system and a lively urban setting that breathes new life into the franchise. It’s especially rewarding for players who enjoyed Pokémon Legends: Arceus and want that blend of nostalgia and innovation. However, if you prioritize a deep story or traditional turn-based combat, this might not fully satisfy you. For a more classic Pokémon RPG feel, consider sticking with earlier main series titles, but if you want to jump into a fresh and fun action-RPG set in a beloved region, this Switch 2 edition is a solid choice.
