- •The 40L capacity is ideal for light to moderate travelers, offering enough space to pack essentials without encouraging overpacking.
- •Constructed from high-quality, durable materials including sturdy zippers and well-sewn seams that endure heavy use.
- •Convertible design allows the bag to switch between a backpack and a duffle, with shoulder straps that can be zipped away for sleek overhead bin storage.
- •Comfortable, adjustable shoulder straps paired with a hip belt distribute weight effectively, making it easier to carry when fully loaded.
- •Simple, spacious layout with one large compartment and a zippered mesh pocket maximizes packing room and efficiency, especially when using packing cubes.
- •Includes internal tie-down straps to keep belongings secure and organized during travel.
- •Top pocket and compression straps add convenience by offering quick access and external storage options like jackets.
- •Very well-suited for extended urban travel or trips where side-to-side city hopping occurs, thanks to its structured design and comfort features.
- •The bag maintains a highly durable internal frame that prevents collapsing and maintains shape even when not fully packed.
- •Comes with a built-in rain cover neatly stowed in a zipped compartment on the shoulder strap, adding protection against weather.
Cons
- •The laptop sleeve is stiff and somewhat awkwardly placed on the side; it can interfere with packing and is less padded than some might prefer.
- •Shoulder straps tend to have excess length that dangles, requiring additional strap retainers to keep things tidy.
- •The teardrop shape, while spacious, may feel less boxy and therefore harder to pack efficiently for some users wanting rigid structure.
- •Some users note the absence of two side bottle holders and missing external zippered pockets, which limits quick-access storage options.
- •Additional internal pockets would improve organization, as the minimalist design often means packing inside one big compartment.
- •The smaller included daypack is viewed as too small and thin to be very practical as a standalone; a larger 25L secondary pack would be more useful.
- •The hip belt plastic buckle has been reported to break accidentally with unclear options for replacement, potentially impacting long-term reliability.
- •Slightly exceeds some airline carry-on size restrictions by a few centimeters in height, which could be an issue for strict airlines, though this is minimal on the back.
- •Daypack lacks external loops or attachment points, reducing versatility for carrying extra items.
- •The overall minimalist design sacrifices some pockets and organizational features found in other travel backpacks.
Bottom Line
The **Osprey Farpoint 40** is a stellar choice for travelers who value durability, comfort, and a simple, effective packing solution in a carry-on-sized travel backpack. It excels in sturdiness and weight distribution, making it great for extended trips and quick urban transitions. However, if you need more organizational pockets or a larger daypack companion, those might be sticking points. For those who want a bit more carrying versatility with multiple compartments and easier water bottle access, you might want to consider larger or differently designed Osprey models, but for straightforward, dependable travel, this one hits the mark.
