Pros
- •Sleek, lightweight design that is comfortable and looks better in person, making it a stylish conversation starter
- •Innovative Meta AI features allow voice assistant to describe surroundings, adding a futuristic tech edge
- •Multifunctional: captures high-quality photos and excellent 3K resolution video seamlessly
- •Integrated audio lets you listen to music with decent sound quality and noise cancellation
- •Transitions lens feature (Clear to Grey) adds valuable adaptability for different lighting conditions
- •Highly appreciated by users who create social media content or use it for work videos and phone calls
- •Comfortable fit, even for larger heads, with intuitive touch controls and smooth app syncing
- •Translation mode transcribes conversations into the app, a handy feature for communication
- •Improved battery life compared to previous versions, although still could be better
Cons
- •Battery drains quickly when recording video with auto-sync enabled; better to pause sync or keep in charging case during heavy use
- •Voice commands for messaging are unreliable, sometimes sending messages to wrong contacts or platforms, especially on iOS 26 requiring tricky setup tweaks
- •Glasses tend to slip down the nose when sweating; some users need an accessory like Pilot Fish to keep them secure
- •Lenses are tight and may be uncomfortable initially, and they scratch easily without extra care
- •Lack of a “Find My Glasses” feature or sound alert is a significant downside given the premium price
- •No zoom functionality on video or photo capture, limiting some creative control
- •LED recording light cannot be disabled, making discreet video recording impossible
- •Lenses do not darken enough in direct sunlight, more style-focused than offering robust UV protection
- •Setup and synchronization can be complicated and occasionally frustrating
- •Feels somewhat heavy after extended use and offers similar performance to some no-name alternatives, making the brand name a big part of the cost
Bottom Line
The Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses pack a punch with futuristic Meta AI, sleek style, and high-quality photo/video capabilities that will delight tech enthusiasts and content creators. However, the product demands some patience with setup quirks, battery limitations during heavy video use, and a few comfort trade-offs like slipping and tight lenses. If you want cutting-edge features bundled into fashionable eyewear and don’t mind some compromises, these deliver big. But if you need stealthy recording or stronger sun protection, or want more reliable messaging, you might want to explore alternatives or keep an eye out for updated models down the road.
