Cons
- •Slow charging speeds can be frustrating, with fully charging from zero sometimes taking over 4 hours
- •Display can occasionally lag or feel slightly unresponsive to touch, especially before uninstalling bloatware
- •Limited RAM (4GB) makes it less suitable for heavy multitasking or demanding apps
- •Does not include a charger in the box, and uses a USB-C to USB-A cable, so you may need to purchase a USB-C fast charger separately
- •Activation requires a Tracfone plan and carrier sign-in, adding a small barrier to setup
- •Some manual tweaking is necessary for photo storage if using a microSD card (camera and backup settings need adjustment)
- •No upgrade path to Android 15 planned, which might limit future feature updates
- •Does not support SIM cards from other carriers unless unlocked online (additional steps and payment required)
- •Wireless screen casting and Bluetooth work well but can occasionally have minor connectivity quirks
- •While camera quality is a leap forward, it still requires some patience to get great shots, lacking professional-grade speed or versatility
Bottom Line
The Tracfone Motorola Moto g Play 2024 is a solid budget-friendly smartphone that punches well above its weight with a big battery, improved camera, and a smoother display than its predecessors. It’s best suited for light to moderate users who want a dependable daily driver or a capable backup phone without breaking the bank. However, if faster charging, higher-end performance, or a fully unlocked device are priorities, you might want to explore higher-tier options. For those on a tight budget seeking remarkable value, this phone delivers with a few compromises you can live with.
