- •High sides help keep bedding and hay contained within the cage.
- •Neutral white and red color scheme with well-spaced metal bars looks good and offers good ventilation.
- •The design includes a usable top shelf for storing pet food or toys, adding convenient space.
Cons
- •Assembly can be tricky at first, with vague instructions and the need for some force or even a hammer to snap parts into place.
- •Locking clips don’t hold strongly, which may be a concern depending on your pet’s behavior.
- •The included hay dispenser looks flimsy, though once attached it holds up better.
- •The cage is spacious for females but may be insufficient for two male guinea pigs without purchasing extensions.
- •Some metal bars have slight flexibility, which may worry owners of very active or strong pets.
- •Customers advise not to put heavy items on top and to secure the top door to prevent escapes.
- •Requires careful attention during assembly to avoid installing parts incorrectly.
Bottom Line
The Midwest Homes for Pets Deluxe Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage in X-Large is a solid, roomy, and thoughtfully designed habitat best suited for female guinea pigs or rabbits that appreciate space and hiding spots. While assembly can test your patience and some clips may feel flimsy, the end result is a sturdy and easy-to-clean cage with functional features like a large front door and anti-leak water bottle. If you need more space for male guinea pigs or want a cage with stronger locking mechanisms, considering extensions or alternative models might be worthwhile. Overall, this cage offers excellent value and comfort in a stylish package.
