- •Resettable combination without the need for a reset tool offers convenient customization.
- •The combination dial is positioned on the bottom, adding protection from harsh weather and damage.
- •Solid, heavy-duty feel with quality materials supports long-term outdoor use.
- •Rubber cover shields the dial area, helping keep debris out.
- •Combination tumblers turn only one way, which helps prevent accidental resetting.
- •Overall, it’s well suited for securing outdoor gear, sheds, gates, and other assets requiring reliable protection.
Cons
- •The default combination is hidden in tiny, hard-to-see print inside the packaging, which makes initial setup confusing and frustrating for many users.
- •Combination numbers must be aligned with nearly invisible notches at the top of the dials, not the obvious etched line in the middle, making it counterintuitive and difficult to operate properly.
- •The rubber cover protecting the dial is flimsy and prone to falling off or deteriorating over time.
- •Numbers on the dials are small and have poor visibility, requiring bright light or good eyesight to read easily.
- •The lock’s combination can only be reset while the lock is in the locked position, which some users find awkward.
- •The unusual alignment requirement of the dial sometimes leads to confusion or failed unlocking attempts.
- •Users mentioned the rubber cover sometimes fails to stay closed, potentially exposing the lock to dirt or weather.
Bottom Line
The Master Lock M175XDLF is a rugged, weatherproof combination lock built for serious outdoor security. It excels in strength and durability, thanks to its tough materials and design. However, the fiddly combination setup—with a hidden default code and challenging dial alignment—may frustrate first-time users, and the flimsy rubber dial cover might affect long-term weather protection. If you want a heavy-duty lock with the convenience of a resettable combination, this model delivers excellent value and protection, especially for outdoor use. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve on setup and dial alignment. If those design quirks sound like a dealbreaker, you might want to compare with other Master Lock models that have larger, easier-to-read dials or more straightforward combination setting features.
