- •Although relatively quiet, ear protection is advised during long periods of use or when vacuuming dust.
Bottom Line
The Makita 9404 is a powerhouse 8.8-Amp belt sander built for serious woodworkers who want fast, smooth results on large, flat surfaces like hardwood floors or tabletops. Its expertly designed dust collection and variable speed make it versatile, though it’s best paired with a shop vac for cleaner workspaces. Heavy and sturdy, it’s not the gentlest tool for extended overhead use or tight corners, but for bulk material removal and refinishing jobs, it’s a reliable champ. If corner sanding or lighter, handheld finesse is vital, consider complementing it with an orbital sander or specialized edge tool. Overall, this sander earns top marks for power, precision, and durability in its class.
