Cons
- •The display appears washed out and grey in bright sunlight, which might make vivid colors hard to see.
- •The official Kobo pen is considered overpriced, and alternatives like Surface-compatible pens work just as well.
- •The plasticky feel of the device and cheap build quality give an inexpensive impression.
- •Note-taking and notebook features can freeze when used extensively, affecting performance over long sessions.
- •Colors are dull and washed out, limiting the appeal for serious color or graphic use.
- •The physical buttons can be a bit awkward for single-handed navigation and could be better arranged.
- •Audiobooks tend to be costly unless you subscribe to their program.
- •The notebook app needs improvement for a more seamless experience.
- •The battery life is relatively short at around 4 hours of use, which isn’t ideal for extended reading sessions.
Bottom Line
The Kobo Libra Colour is a versatile, lightweight e-reader packed with features like waterproofing, dark mode, and a color E Ink display. Its support for audiobooks and stylus note-taking makes it stand out, especially if you're a reader who enjoys both text and audio content (and is okay with a somewhat faded color display in bright sunlight). Just keep in mind that the device's plastic build and performance hiccups during extended notebook use may be a downside. If vivid color and high-end feel are your priorities, you might want to check out alternatives, but for a multi-functional device with flexible note-taking and audiobook support, it’s a solid choice.
