Cons
- •Rear speakers often described as underpowered and barely audible even at high volume, limiting true surround sound immersion.
- •Surround sound performance falls short of true Dolby Atmos or immersive directional audio expectations; more like a high-end soundbar with surround elements.
- •Bass from the subwoofer only really noticeable at medium or higher volume levels, which can limit experience at low volumes.
- •HDMI CEC and EDID lockout issues reported, causing video problems and requiring troubleshooting with multiple connected devices.
- •Fire TV does not route through the system’s HDMI and must be connected directly to the TV.
- •Rear speakers get overshadowed by the soundbar and subwoofer, reducing their surround effect contribution.
Bottom Line
The JBL Bar 1000MK2 offers impressive sound quality with deep bass, clear dialogue, and an easy setup, making it a strong choice for those wanting a powerful soundbar experience with some surround capabilities. However, if you’re after genuine immersive Dolby Atmos surround sound from all speakers — especially loud, effective rear surrounds — this system might leave you wanting more. The weaker rear speakers and occasional HDMI quirks suggest it’s best suited for users prioritizing soundbar and subwoofer performance over full 7.1.4 surround fidelity. For a more seamless surround experience, consider comparing with other premium systems that deliver stronger rear speaker output and more reliable HDMI integration.
