Pros

- •Large 1-inch sensor and dual Leica lenses deliver detailed images and excellent low-light performance
- •Up to 12x zoom, including macro capabilities with a minimum focus of 15cm, maintaining significant detail
- •Versatile shooting modes: RAW, UltraPhoto 37MP, various filters, and I-Log for flexible post-processing
- •Advanced stabilization with a 3-axis mechanical gimbal and electronic stabilization ensures smooth footage even at zoom levels
- •Detachable touchscreen and remote control features permit remote framing and gesture controls, adding versatility
- •Supports professional workflows with high-grade color profiles like Dolby Vision and I-Log, plus dynamic range up to 14 stops
- •High-quality optics in a portable form, with dual lenses offering wide and telephoto options in a robust build
- •MicroSD expandable storage and built-in 47GB onboard memory provide ample space for lengthy shoots
- •Modular accessories (like a wide-angle lens and external mics) enhance filming options, appealing to advanced creators
Cons
- •Slightly heavy at approximately 230g, making it less pocket-friendly and potentially awkward for extended handheld use
- •Detachable controller, while versatile, may be cumbersome or prone to wear with frequent handling
- •Lacks external ND filters and HDMI output, limiting professional control options
- •External microphone connectivity issues, especially with non-Insta360 mics via Bluetooth, reducing audio flexibility
- •Some features, like the joystick on the detachable LCD, lack fine control or speed adjustment, affecting precise framing
- •No focus peaking, which can make critical focus pulling tricky in complex shots
- •Limited external control options when using the iOS app, which disables physical buttons during remote operation
- •The camera's weight and size may affect portability compared to smaller competitors like DJI Osmo Pocket 3
- •Slightly higher price point at $769.99, which might not justify the incremental benefits for casual users
Bottom Line
This Insta360 Luna Ultra is a powerhouse for creators who demand professional-grade video quality combined with advanced stabilization and versatile zoom. Its dual Leica lenses and large sensor deliver on detailed imagery and excellent low-light performance, making it ideal for vloggers and semi-professionals. However, with its weight, limited external controls, and some missing professional features like external NDs, it leans toward the advanced user rather than casual shooters. If you’re looking for a lighter, more portable camera, you might consider the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, though it doesn't quite match the Luna Ultra’s sensor size and cinematic capabilities. For those ready to invest in top-tier quality and flexibility, the Luna Ultra is a compelling choice.
