Pros
- •Saves significant energy and reduces detergent usage by needing only about 25% of usual detergent amounts.
- •Programmable to wash and dry in one continuous cycle, eliminating the need to transfer clothes between machines.
- •Operates quietly and with minimal vibration when properly set up by removing shipping bolts and leveling the unit.
- •Compact size fits well in small spaces like apartments where traditional washers and dryers won’t fit.
- •Very energy efficient, cycling between lower wattage rather than running at high power continuously.
- •Suitable for off-grid living with the option to pause mid-cycle and let clothes finish drying naturally.
- •Minimal lint buildup that mostly collects on the door seal and is easy to clean.
- •Cleans effectively with a fresh scent, especially when run half full on the perm press setting.
- •Combines washing and drying functions seamlessly and automatically switches from wash to dry cycle.
- •Straightforward, easy-to-use controls make operation simple.
Cons
- •Drying can take a long time, sometimes 7+ hours for a full cycle, which may not suit those needing quick laundry turnaround.
- •Recommended load size is only half full for optimal drying performance, which could be limiting for larger households.
- •Instructions are unclear, especially about cycle differences and how to stop the dry cycle without unplugging or using an emergency release.
- •Error codes such as E30 (door not fully closed) can be confusing and require careful hose placement to avoid.
- •Lacks advanced features like steam wrinkle removal that some competitors offer.
- •Stopping the drying mid-cycle to check or remove clothes is difficult and inconvenient.
- •Could be confusing for first-time combo washer/dryer users due to unclear guidance on load recommendations and cycle use.
- •Not ideal as a standalone machine for large families or high-volume laundry due to slow cycle times and limited load size.
Bottom Line
The HAMILTON BEACH Washer and Dryer Combo 2.7 cu ft is a compact, energy-efficient unit designed for small households or apartment living where space is tight. It delivers effective cleaning and drying but requires patience due to long cycle times and limited recommended loads for optimal drying. If you need a quiet, easy-to-use combo with low energy usage and don’t mind slower cycles, this is a solid pick. However, if faster drying, larger capacity, or advanced features like steam are important, consider looking at specialty combos or separate machines better suited to high-volume laundry needs.
