- •Decent camera quality capturing natural and high-quality photos, especially improvements over previous models
- •Attractive Lemongrass color with a stylish, unique design, including a distinctive camera bump
- •Good software experience with a clean, simple Android interface similar to iOS, appealing to former iPhone users
- •Seamless data transfer and initial setup process, minimizing glitches
- •Google Lens features like live transcription, auto-translation, and song ID are quick and useful
- •Google's 'Now Playing' feature works well for music identification
- •Water and dust resistance (IP68) adds durability in various environments
- •Supports 5G (carrier-dependent) for fast connectivity
Cons
- •Fingerprint sensor is unreliable and often requires multiple attempts to unlock; face recognition is ineffective
- •Touchscreen responsiveness can be inconsistent, with missed taps and slower navigation
- •Battery life, while lasting a full day, is not outstanding and may require daily charging especially for heavier use
- •Gaming and emulation performance is subpar due to software optimization issues with the Tensor chip, not hardware limitations
- •The device's design includes a camera bump that can collect dust and make flat placement awkward
- •Limited OS support — only one year of security updates, unlike some competitors like Samsung offering longer support
- •Some software quirks, like a default data/weather widget taking up space and less customizable notifications
- •The default texting app's reduced functionality leads to extra steps to recover archived chats
- •No 3.5mm headphone jack, which means adapters are necessary
- •The Tensor chip's performance is considered inferior to Snapdragon alternatives, impacting high-demand applications
Bottom Line
The Google Pixel 7 offers a solid mid-tier flagship experience with a bright display, good photography features, and seamless software, making it a worthwhile choice for everyday users and fans of clean Android. However, its unreliable fingerprint and face recognition, along with mediocre gaming performance, are notable drawbacks. If you prioritize durability, longer OS support, or better gaming and biometric features, you might want to consider alternatives like Samsung models, which often provide more in terms of support longevity and hardware reliability.
