Fresh Step Extreme Cat Litter
Fresh Step Extreme Scented Litter with The Power of Febreze is a mixed bag: while it excels in clumping, odor control, and is generally cat-approved, it’s notorious for its dusty mess and a scent that might set off allergies. If you're not ready to deal with the dust or strong scent, you might want to check out Fresh Step Advanced Unscented or Arm & Hammer Platinum Slide for a potentially better experience.

Pros
- •Clumps exceptionally well, making scooping quick and easy without crumbles being left behind
- •Effectively controls odors for up to 10 days, even with multiple cats
- •The Mountain Spring scent is mild and refreshing, not overpowering
- •Works well with both manual scoops and automatic litter boxes like the Litter Robot
- •Allows for longer intervals between full litter replacements, saving time and effort
- •Cats generally accept it well and seem to prefer it over other brands
- •Low dust formula (advertised as 99.9% dust free) but actual dust levels are manageable
- •Improves overall home environment and air quality
- •Formulated with ClumpLock technology that locks in liquid and odors on contact
- •Well-liked for its effective odor control and minimal tracking
Cons
- •Generates a significant cloud of fine dust when poured, despite claims of being dust-free
- •Dust tends to cling to hair, skin, and can be irritating or felt in the mouth
- •The scent, while mild for some, caused migraines and sneezing in others
- •Does not clump as tightly as some users prefer, especially compared to unscented alternatives
- •Strong scent may not be suitable for users or cats sensitive to fragrances
- •Dust levels can vary; some users find it worse than previous brands like Dr. Elsey
- •Dust can be suffocating or irritating, even for those expecting low dust
- •Price is higher compared to other litters, which may not justify the dust issues for some
- •No mention of it being truly 99.9% dust free in real-world use, as some reviews suggest residual dust
- •Long-term performance is positive but should be monitored if dust or scent sensitivities are present
Bottom Line
Based on extensive reviews and product descriptions, this litter excels at odor control and forming durable, easy-to-scoop clumps, making it ideal for multi-cat households and those wanting fewer full litter changes. However, the dust and scent may pose problems for sensitive users or cats. If dust and scent sensitivities are a concern, you might want to consider the <component-button-product identifierProduct="XYZ123">Fresh Step Advanced Unscented</component-button-product>, which offers comparable odor control with less fragrance and dust. Overall, this is a reliable, high-performance litter if you're prepared for the occasional dust cloud and prefer a lightly scented option.
