Pros
- •Battery-powered and cordless design makes it quiet, efficient, and hassle-free compared to gas models.
- •Powerful enough to easily clear snow up to 5-6 inches, including heavy and moderately wet snow.
- •Greatly reduces physical effort, making it ideal for users with limited strength or arthritic conditions.
- •Adjustable chute allows precise snow direction left, right, or straight for better control.
- •Battery life is impressive, often able to clear an entire 40' x 50' driveway plus a 60' sidewalk on a single charge.
- •Lightweight and well-balanced compared to traditional shovels, enabling easier handling and less fatigue.
- •Moves snow effectively up to 25 feet, sometimes farther depending on wind assistance.
- •Highly recommended for small to medium snow clearing tasks on smooth surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and decks.
- •Comes pre-assembled and includes the 56V 2.5Ah battery and charger, offering good value for the price.
- •Replaceable plastic blade for maintenance prolongs the shovel’s lifespan.
Cons
- •Lacks wheels in the original design, which means it requires lifting and carrying rather than rolling—this is often cited as a major drawback.
- •Slightly heavier than some users expected, with a learning curve to maneuver comfortably without strain.
- •Not suitable for uneven surfaces such as stone, gravel, or grass, limiting versatility.
- •Adjusting the chute direction requires bending down, which can be a minor inconvenience during use.
- •Battery life, while good, may require a spare battery for heavier snowfall or extended clearing sessions.
- •Doesn’t move forward on its own, so users still do some manual pushing.
- •Less effective for very thick or deep snow beyond the 5-6 inch range, especially if extremely wet or packed.
Bottom Line
The EGO POWER+ 12" Electric Snow Shovel SNS1201 is a solid choice if you want a quiet, cordless snow removal option that dramatically lessens physical effort—especially good for smaller to medium driveways and walkways with snow up to about 6 inches deep. However, if you hate lifting or prefer less strain, the lack of wheels might be a dealbreaker unless you add aftermarket wheels like Joopsam’s. For those needing wheels or a model better suited to varied surfaces, consider looking at wheeled electric snow throwers. Overall, this shovel delivers on power and battery life with the trusted quality of the EGO brand while being easy to handle compared to traditional shovels. If you want a more mobile experience with wheels built-in, you might want to explore wheeled models specifically designed for effortless rolling on paved surfaces.
