Doheny's 1.5 HP Pool Pump
Pros
- •Easy to install and compatible with existing setups, allowing for quick operation in less than an hour
- •Very quiet operation, barely audible unless in close proximity, reducing noise disturbance
- •Provides strong water flow capable of creating a swirl in a 24-foot round pool
- •Suitable for larger water circulation, handling around 3,300 gallons, and capable of supporting additional grow beds or towers
- •Offers excellent value for the price, making it a cost-effective alternative to more expensive brands
- •Larger strainer basket compared to older models, improving debris collection and maintenance
- •Performs reliably over long periods; some users report running effectively for about four years before failure
- •Easy to clean and maintain with simple filter access
- •Fits perfectly as a replacement for a Hayward pump and motor
- •Compact size, requiring minimal setup space
Cons
- •Lacks an on/off switch; must unplug to stop the pump, which can be inconvenient
- •Starts producing a loud whine shortly after installation, audible from 100 feet away (may indicate internal issues)
- •Some reports of the pump running warm—nearly too hot to touch—though no issues have been shown yet
- •Reliability concerns: some users experienced a pump that stopped functioning after a short time, requiring replacement
- •Slightly less pressure under load compared to similar pumps like Hayward, reaching only 18 psi when dirty
- •No response from seller when issues are raised; customer support may be limited
- •Motor appears to be running after failure but no longer pumps water, indicating possible internal failure
Bottom Line
This Doheny's Above Ground Pool Pro Swimming Pool Pump (1.5 HP) offers good value, easy installation, and quiet operation for regular pool use and larger water circulation tasks. However, some users have experienced reliability issues and noise concerns shortly after installation. If you prioritize a long-lasting, maintenance-friendly pump and don’t mind a lack of an on/off switch, it could be a solid choice. Otherwise, you might want to consider alternative brands like Hayward, which many users find more dependable over time.
