Used & Refurbished

- •Battery life with the 2.0 AH battery is enough to trim about 1/3 of an acre with half the charge left, making it suitable for small residential yards.
- •Lightweight and easy to handle, which helps reduce user fatigue during shorter yard maintenance sessions.
- •Performs well for regular upkeep, edging, and light trimming tasks when combined with lawn mowing.
- •Self-feeding spool works reliably without frequent jamming or overload issues for most users.
- •Multiple users report satisfactory battery life lasting 20-30 minutes depending on speed setting, enough for small to medium yards.
- •Customer service is responsive to battery problems and will replace faulty batteries upon contact.
- •High and low speed settings provide some versatility for different trimming needs.
Cons
- •Battery life is inconsistent; many report it lasting only 10 to 12 minutes, which is frustrating for larger yards or extended use.
- •Weeds often get caught under the shaft, causing the tool to stop spinning and requiring frequent clearing.
- •String frequently tangles or gets stuck in the head after just a short period of use, interrupting work.
- •The dual trigger and safety button design causes hand and arm fatigue after about 20-25 minutes, with spasms lasting hours in some cases.
- •Performance and reliability appear downgraded compared to older CRAFTSMAN models, with several users returning the product due to dissatisfaction.
- •Not powerful enough for heavy-duty or overgrown trimming tasks; more of a light-duty, quick maintenance tool.
- •The self-feeding spool may overfeed line near fences, causing the guard to hit and kick back, which can be uncomfortable or hazardous.
- •Motor power is reported to be weak, roughly half the power of even cheap corded models.
- •Battery indicator is inaccurate and the battery may show only two lights even when fully charged, adding to frustration.
- •The product can feel overpriced given the short battery life and underwhelming power compared to gas or corded alternatives.
Bottom Line
The **CRAFTSMAN V20 WEEDWACKER (CMCST900D1)** is a lightweight, reasonably priced string trimmer designed for quick and easy yard upkeep on small residential lawns. It shines in routine maintenance when paired with extra batteries but struggles with battery life consistency, clipping stubborn weeds, and ergonomic comfort for extended use. If you need a trimmer for light, occasional work and prioritize cordless convenience, this can do the job—just don't expect it to replace heavier-duty or professional models. However, if you want more reliable battery life, stronger power, and less tangle frustration, you might want to consider other brands or corded/gas alternatives better suited for larger or tougher landscaping jobs.
