- •Performs well cutting large trees and thick branches without failing, delivering reliable performance for various DIY projects.
- •Battery life lasts longer than expected, often up to 4 hours depending on usage, supported by efficient V20 compatible batteries.
- •Extension tube is strong enough to reach high branches despite feeling somewhat flimsy, and is repairable if broken.
- •Lightweight design thanks to carbon fiber tubing, making it easier to handle compared to heavier models.
- •Simple and straightforward assembly, with good build quality that meets expectations for casual and semi-intensive use.
- •Blade and motor maintain sharpness well and rarely require adjustment, providing consistent cutting efficiency.
- •Chain oiling, though manual, is effective and keeps performance steady.
- •Adjustable length options accommodate trimming both small and large trees.
- •Recommended for users already invested in the V20 battery system due to battery compatibility.
- •Balances affordability with reliability, making it a sensible choice for homeowners needing a cordless pole saw.
Cons
- •No oil reservoir included; requires manual application of bar and chain oil, which interrupts workflow.
- •Blade/motor cover design often clogs with leaves and sawdust, requiring removal of two screws to clean instead of a quick-release thumbscrew.
- •Best used nearly vertical to avoid clogging, which increases risk due to proximity to falling branches.
- •Feels somewhat heavy and causes muscle and joint strain when fully extended or used by people with back or shoulder issues.
- •Some flex in the pole can affect stability but is a trade-off for keeping the weight down.
- •Reports of common battery and charger issues, including batteries showing full charge but failing to power the saw, and chargers blinking then turning off.
- •Concerns about overall durability and reliability, with some users reporting failures shortly after the return window closes.
- •Assembly requires ensuring tight couplers to avoid play and wobble in the pole.
Bottom Line
The CRAFTSMAN V20 Pole Saw is a solid choice for homeowners and DIYers looking for a cordless, lightweight pole saw with impressive battery life and respectable cutting power for typical yard work. However, if you want convenience, be prepared for manual oiling and some finicky clogging due to the blade cover design. Users with physical limitations should be cautious about the weight and strain involved in extended use. Battery reliability issues reported by some users could be a concern, so keep an eye on warranty and support options. If those drawbacks don’t faze you, this tool offers great value at its price point. Otherwise, consider alternatives with automatic oilers and more robust battery systems.
