- •The bag provides ample room for storage, perfect for camping gear and long trips.
- •The thick material and zippers are effective, allowing the bag to perform well in keeping items dry during heavy rain when used properly.
- •The slightly angled design may reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency on the road.
- •It's easy to load onto large vehicles, securing well with the provided straps.
- •The DIY method for tie-downs without roof racks can securely anchor the bag through the car doors and additional points.
- •The bag remained stable with no shifting even on back roads and highways during a test drive.
Cons
- •The bag is not waterproof or stormproof as advertised, leading to soaked contents in some cases.
- •Straps included with the bag broke easily under minimal pressure, raising durability concerns.
- •Zipping the bag is difficult and inconvenient as it requires reaching the entire roof.
- •Setting up the bag is overwhelming and confusing due to the lack of clear installation instructions.
- •The bag developed holes from wind damage after a trip, risking the loss or damage of items inside.
- •Users have noted a significant impact on fuel economy, with a reduction of about 10 mpg when using the bag.
Bottom Line
The CargoSmart 15 Cubic ft Storm Proof Rooftop Cargo Bag offers significant storage capacity and reliable performance under specific conditions, but its claims of being waterproof are overstated. Despite solid construction and a design meant to aid in aerodynamics, inconsistencies in water resistance and unreliable straps have led to mixed reviews. If waterproof capability is crucial, consider alternative rooftop bags that guarantee better protection in harsh weather conditions.
