Pros
- •Delivers chaotic, satisfying gunplay packed with endless loot for that classic Borderlands thrill.
- •Smooth and rewarding combat on PS5, with quick load times and solid visuals that elevate the gameplay experience.
- •Especially fun, engaging, and well-suited for couch co-op sessions—perfect for playing with friends, family, or as a couple.
- •Gameplay mechanics and deep skill trees keep things fresh and customizable, enhancing replayability.
- •Offers a long playtime with plenty of loot, side missions, and dynamic movement abilities to keep players entertained.
- •Generally stable performance with minor hiccups that don’t steal away the core fun.
- •Great choice for fans of looter-shooter games and those nostalgic for the original Borderlands feel.
Cons
- •The story is uneven—better than Borderlands 3 but pales in comparison to the beloved Borderlands 2, with moments of weak or lame dialogue.
- •Minor bugs and frustrating random disconnections during online co-op can hurt the experience, especially during boss fights.
- •Online play requires an internet connection, a SHiFT account for cross-play, and a separate paid console subscription, adding some barriers.
- •Some performance hiccups and lag are present, though patches are expected to improve this over time.
- •Co-op online mode issues with server stability can kick players out unexpectedly, which can be annoying.
Bottom Line
Borderlands 4 on PS5 delivers the franchise’s signature chaotic loot-shooter action with smooth gameplay, solid visuals, and enjoyable couch co-op that fans will appreciate—especially if you love hunting for billions of weapons and customizing builds. However, the story doesn’t quite hit the high notes of earlier entries, and online co-op can be hit-or-miss due to connectivity bugs. If you highly value a strong narrative or rock-solid online play, you might want to keep an eye on updates or consider revisiting Borderlands 2 for storytelling excellence. But if looter-shooter mayhem and dynamic action are your jam, this is a solid pick worth diving into.
