Pros
- •Provides a completely hands-free reading experience by allowing remote page-turning, scrolling, and media control via Bluetooth.
- •Compact, lightweight, and designed with a retro typewriter aesthetic, making it highly portable and comfortable to hold for extended periods.
- •Long battery life with a single charge lasting weeks, emphasizing convenience for frequent use.
- •Features interchangeable keycaps and customizable buttons to suit user preferences and enhance usability.
- •Operates in three modes—reading, browsing, and multimedia—each optimized for specific tasks, with easy mode switching.
- •Compatible with BOOX devices and requires firmware V4.2 or later for optimal functionality.
- •Well-made with a charming retro design, resembling electronics from the 1980s.
- •Simple and reliable Bluetooth pairing to BOOX tablets and other devices; supports three modes: reading, multimedia, and browsing.
- •Functions well in scenarios like music control or reading in bed, at a stand, or with gloves, especially for users with disabilities or injuries.
Cons
- •Chunkier and heavier than expected for a two-button remote, which may affect long-term comfort.
- •The interchangeable button caps' symbols are unclear and less intuitive than standard directional arrows.
- •Native support for volume-button page turning may require manual enabling, adding a step for some users.
- •Personal use may be limited since touchscreen interaction feels more natural than using the remote for certain tasks.
- •The appearance might be confusing initially due to protective film on key caps, though it is not scratched.
Bottom Line
The BOOX Tappy Bluetooth Remoter offers a charming, retro-inspired design with solid performance for those needing a dedicated external page control device. Its portability, customizable features, and long battery life make it a fun accessory for specific reading or media scenarios. However, if you prefer traditional touchscreen navigation or require a more intuitive interface, this might not be the best fit. For a different approach, you might consider a dedicated touchscreen device or a different remote with more intuitive controls.
