- •Color e-ink display with muted pastel tones enhances comic reading and professional PDFs with graphics.
- •Runs on a full Android OS allowing installation of a wide range of apps beyond the default selections.
- •Stylus is highly responsive, pressure-sensitive, and precise, great for drawing and handwriting.
- •Robust note-taking features include templates, handwriting-to-text conversion, and app integrations.
- •Battery lasts several days under typical mixed use (reading and note-taking), conserving power well.
- •Lightweight design that doesn’t heat up, making long sessions comfortable.
- •Supports a broad range of document formats including CBR and CBZ, popular for comics.
- •Display brightness is sufficient for use mostly without backlight and adjustable for darker rooms.
- •Easy file management with drag-and-drop and cloud synchronization options like Google Drive.
Cons
- •Writing quality, while good, is noted to be somewhat inferior to the Kindle Scribe’s black-and-white screen.
- •Color e-ink display has a limited and muted color range, not vibrant like standard tablets.
- •Battery life reduces noticeably with continuous heavy use like drawing or video playback.
- •Magnetic pen cap is weak, often falling off along with replacement tips, and requires creative fixes.
- •Display can appear quite dark and might require front light adjustment in some lighting conditions.
Bottom Line
If you want a versatile, color e-ink tablet that doubles as a notebook and an e-reader with strong Android flexibility, the BOOX Note Air 5 C is a compelling choice. It shines for professionals needing color for PDFs or comic readers craving color without eye strain, combined with powerful note-taking tools. However, if you prioritize the absolute best writing feel or more vivid colors, you might want to also check out alternatives like the Kindle Scribe for black-and-white precision or consider a traditional tablet for vibrancy. Overall, this device offers excellent value for its mix of features and portability.
